The Northumberland Visitor Economy Board and its members play a convening role and provide strategic oversight and direction for Northumberland’s visitor economy.
It is made up of a selection of private sector, stakeholder representatives and officer members of Northumberland County Council to be representative of the Northumberland visitor economy.
The Board’s primary function is to steer the objectives of the annual Visit Northumberland delivery plan based on industry insight, and provide strategic oversight for growing the visitor economy and managing the destination.
Key areas of responsibility are as follows:
- Provide strategic oversight and direction for the visitor economy.
- Influence Northumberland County Council’s visitor economy policy as a critical friend.
- Lead and champion the visitor economy agenda.
- Act as the private sector interface with the council and regional partners.
- Represent Northumberland’s visitor economy regionally, nationally, and internationally.
- Advocate for the sector and align activities with broader strategies.
- Derive benefit from DCMS, VisitEngland, and VisitBritain.
- Support local businesses as champions and advisors.
- Engage the private sector and offer global business insight.
Members provide sector, specialism and geographical representation to steer matters relating to the development of the Northumberland strategic delivery framework, with members providing insight and expertise from the following sectors:
- Accommodation
- Attraction
- Culture
- Hospitality
- Experience providers
- Marketing/Communications specialists
- Product Development
- Regenerative Tourism
- Skills
- Transport and Infrastructure
- Natural Environment
The Board meets quarterly.
