The visitor economy is important to Northumberland.
In 2019, there were 10 million visitors to the county generating over £1billion. This economic impact showed a growth of 57% over 10 years, demonstrating the increasing popularity of the county. Tourism is the second largest sector in Northumberland, directly and indirectly employing just over 17,000 people (15% of workforce) with tourism and culture being identified as one of the county’s six industrial growth opportunities.
